Blog Re-Design & Poll
I re-did my blog graphics, header, and stuff last night to something that kind of matches the color outside now {green, not snowy white!}! I love those pretty little flowers, even though I have NO idea what kind of flower they are. (Anyone else have any idea?) I updated the photo on the left, too, and some on my about page.
I think that self portraits are kind of fun to take.. LOL!
As for the poll, I created it just for fun to test the memory of my readers in regards to what I post {I'm sure I'll be making more like this'un, too, if ya'll like it}. The answers should be tolerably easy if you've been reading my blog for some time. If not, you might have to go back through the posts [or guess!] to find the answer!
I brought up some old picture frames from the building today; I'm hoping to be able to print off some of my Scripture wallpapers and hang them around my room (preferably the ones using my pictures and photography
). That would be nice, Kind of add a personal touch to my bedroom (as if it didn't already have one, but anyways…)
Oh yeah, I didn't tell ya'll that I got my Pilgrim's Progress book, did I? Rest assured, I'll get a picture of it soon for you guys… I forgot or I'd of done it yesterday when I had my camera out. It's the actual book in the oldish language {I love it, though!}. I'd never read the actual thing before, just those Abeka edited versions for school that left out a LOT.. and personally I always thought they (the edited ones) were kind of bland.
Anyhow, vote on the poll! Here it is, and it's also over there on the sidebar:
Irises Are Blooming!
Posted by Lacy in Capturing Life in Photos, On the Farm on Thursday, April 30, 2009
I was out taking pictures yesterday morning of Mom's Irises that have bloomed ~ they are so beautiful!
All of the yellow daffodils have shriveled up and died and these gorgeous purple Irises have replaced them. I do love taking pictures of them!
Aren't they so pretty?
Mom got some of her lettuce, peas, carrots, onions, and tomatoes planted in her raised bed. We had to get some top soil to put down in it, and get all the peat moss out. But that "top soil" sure doesn't look like real top soil to me.. I always thought top soil was good black dirt… but, maybe I'm wrong.
That second picture above with the bird is the bird that has an egg nest in the overhang of the hen house. I went in the hen house with the camera and left the door open, hoping she'd land over there so I could snap a picture of her – and sure enough! A nice clear one too!
I probably should look in the Bird book to identify her… do you have any idea what kind of bird it is?
The Wonders of a Guinea Egg
Posted by Lacy in On the Farm on Friday, April 24, 2009
You'd be surprised at how hard of a shell they have. Smaller than a regular chicken egg, yet when thrown in the air at the same distance, they do not crack or burst upon impact of the ground. Isn't that neat?
Levi found one this evening over by the brush pile, and, not knowing how old it was [but it couldn't be that old...], Mom insisted that we get rid of it (mainly, feed it to the dog). So, Levi suggested that before we give up the prize to Gabriel, that we throw it up in the air ~ just to see if it was as hard as guinea eggs normally are.
I agreed to do it, on the condition that he hold Gabriel back, so it wouldn't drop back down on his head or anything drastic like that. Walking a couple steps away from Levi and the dog, I proceeded to toss it a good distance up in air and eagerly watched as it *flew* up and started coming back down …and … slam! It hit with a thud.
It never busted. I ran over to it and picked it up, checking for any dents or scratches. Not a one. The shell wasn't even cracked in the slightest anywhere! It was a genuine guinea egg!
So, with our experiment complete, I then handed it over to the dog… and after seeing that he couldn't crack it, I threw it at a stump – hard – and that finally made it split wide open!
Well, I hope you found that interesting.
