On the other side of the fence

Oh dear, let's see… what's been going on 'round here? According to my calendar (at least I'm remembering to write in it, eh?)…. Last Saturday we gave our neighbor 5 dozen of our extra eggs, on Sunday I took 6 of our extra tomatoe plants (I can't remember what kind they were, other than they were the big red tomatoes) down to Charlene (our neighbor) for her to plant in her garden. Then I went back down later to play with Mckayla.
That was fun! And it rained all day Monday.
Yesterday… well… where do I start?
Okay, let's start with Hannah's little escapade. I heard Gabriel barking at the guineas, and the guineas screeching at the top of their lungs not too long before milkin' time, so I ran out to see what the problem was. I ran down to the barnyard gate, and that scared Shadow out of the woods and he ran down to meet me. Well, I got through the gate and was heading down to the hen pen, and I heard more hooves pounding, behind me. So I turn and look, and there's Hannah. On the other side of the fence! I ran back up to the gate and lassoed her neck with my arm and pulled her in before Shadow could come up behind me and push his way out (I can't hardly stop him when he gets to pushing. He's strong!).
Well, I thought, maybe she got in to Gracie's stall, and the pen door blew open from the wind, and she got out. I went and checked, and Gracie's stall door wasn't open. She didn't get out that way. After milking I went up to the top of the field where Shadow was, and saw the place in the fence where she bent the chicken wire down and squeezed through. :O She puts her front feet up on that chicken wire that's connected to the hi-tensile fence, to get the leaves up higher that she can't otherwise reach. Well, that chicken wire bends real easy. So with all her weight, it just bent right down, and she just went right through. I hope she doesn't make a habit of this. Next time she could be in the garden that we just got planted!
At chore time, Gabriel and I went in the hen house to fill up the chicken feeders, and I happened to look up at the bird nest that is under the roof right above the hen house steps, to see if I could see any of the baby birds that were there. I sure did. I saw two not-so-litlte birds staring right back at me.
So I got Gabe out of the Hen House, and I ran back up to the house to get my camera to see if I could get a good picture of them to post and show ya'll. I got back down there with my camera and got up on the steps, and I had just raised my camera up and turned it on, and it must've startled them or something, because they all flew out of the nest right at me. And there wasn't just two of them, there was about 4 of them! I was pretty disappointed that I didn't get to get a picture of them! They were so cute.
Anyhow, I put the cat in the barn after that for a while, just in case any of the birdie's decided to land on the ground. If Sunny was out, they'd be cat food.

Tsk, tsk, bad chickens! Hopefully they'll pick up production again soon! I remember when we were getting 13 and 14 a day! And, with Gabriel on patrol in the barnyard, I'm hoping the rooster fights won't be as bad this year, though I'm sure I'm going to have to separate Danny and Jacob if they start fighting that bad again. I don't look forward to all the separating animals again… lol, maybe I should just let them all fight it out!
