Danny's Blue Leg
Posted by Lacy in On the Farm on Monday, August 17, 2009
Yesterday I caught a really, really big bullfrog in the waterhole!
I mean, he was a whopper! I had been patiently sitting by the waterhole trying to catch a frog in my net.. preferably a big frog. I even had my 5 gallon bucket with me to put them in! Two littler ones were caught (and jumped out of the 5 gallon bucket…) before I saw my prize hiding under the pipes in the water, right up against the bank.
So I slowly dipped my net in the water, which was already extended as far as it could reach, just to ensure that I could get it, slowly advanced my net underneath this big froggy, then suddenly pulled it up out of the water from underneath of him, and it pinned him to the bank, so he would jump into my net! It worked!
He has got to be the biggest frog I have ever caught. The second picture is me trying to do a hand comparison to his size ~ and he was as big as my hand!
He jumped out of the bucket twice, and he had a mighty powerful jump on him!
I really hated to have to let him go after I spend all that time trying to catch him, but oh well. Maybe by the next time I catch him he'll be bigger! (That's hard to imagine
)
Danny (my rooster) now has a beautiful blue cast on his leg…
Because he somehow managed to rip out his spur, and don't ask me how! I have no idea how he managed to do such a thing! I picked him up last night when we were putting the animals away, so I could put him in his cage for the night, and Levi noticed he was dripping blood from his foot. I simply thought he cut his toe or some such a thing, but Levi saw that his spur was completely (I mean, completely..) gone and there was a gaping hole where it should have been!
We packed cayenne pepper in and around the wound to stop the bleeding (and it did), then wrapped a paper towel around that, then Mom wrapped gauze and the sticky blue gauze around that to keep everything in. It hasn't bled anymore, so hopefully it will heal nicely… but I'm still very curious as to how he did it… and where the spur is!
The cast doesn't seem to bother Danny (neither does the absense of his spur, for that matter), and he thinks he's got something special with that pretty blue gauze wrapped around his leg!!
A Quick Rundown
Posted by Lacy in On the Farm on Friday, July 10, 2009
Oh my! I didn't quite mean to disappear from here so quickly after I got back from Gran and Pap's! I'll give you a quick rundown on what's been going on around here since my last post.
I got sick Monday with a stomach virus / flu, and was sick the entire day (queasy, chills, achy joints, etc). Whoever heard of curling up in a blanket on the couch in July? I even wore a flannel shirt when I went outside! Anyhow, the next few days I was able to rest and recuperate, and today I'm feeling great! Praise the Lord!!
This is a hornet's nest that dropped out from underneath the tarp we had over the log-splitter. It's a pretty good sized one, huh? There were hornets swarming all around it – I guess they couldn't figure out why their home dropped to the ground!
All I can figure is it must've gotten too heavy!
Here's a rather large bullfrog I caught with my new pond net in the Waterhole! This is the first one of this size that I've been able to catch. After I caught him, I also caught another littler one (though I didn't get a picture of him) before I let them go.
And the rooster there is Jacob.. he was "allowed" out with the hens the other day, and enjoyed himself greatly!
I've moved my entire Scripture Wallpapers project over to my new Scripture graphics blog ~ Thy Word Forever. I figured it would be easier to have everything in one spot. So check that out, and from now on I'll be doing all the Scripture wallpaper requests there.
Pictures

Well, among doing other things today, I got out my camera and decided to take a few pictures. I've picked out a few of the best to post here.
I'm not exactly sure what type of plant this is, but it grows everywhere in the woods around here! Does anyone else know?
A little buttercup
Some type of purple flower
The beechnut tree in the front yard
Some water down by the creek
This is a bullfrog I found sitting in the pond!
My pet hen, Dove.
I was reading in James last night, and I came across this verse;
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
(James 1:19 KJV)
Which reminded me, yet again, that I need to think before I speak. I have a habit of speaking before thinking, and speaking much too quickly often. I guess I will just have to work on it!
