Picture Perfect

Ever since my camera broke sometime last year (a little point & shoot type) I had been using Mom's [bigger] digital camera, and Levi and I have both been sharing it. If we go on walks it usually ends up that one of us is left out of photos because that one left out is the one taking the pictures! :P

I had been wanting to get a new camera for me, and lately I was finally able to do so! :D I haven't gotten around to taking pictures of the camera itself yet, ( :P ) but I have been taking plenty of other pictures with it and trying to get the hang of the new feel, the new settings, etc. It is a Canon PowerShot SX10IS.

So I've been enjoying getting used to it, and the zoom is absolutely wonderful for zooming in on turtles or bullfrogs! I love getting pictures of frogs for some reason! And it even takes widescreen pictures! (A setting Levi particularly enjoys), which you can see an example of in the 2nd picture above.

We took the camera on its first outing the other day, out for a walk in the woods, but there wasn't much to take pictures of and I was still getting used to it by that time. Anyhow, we had a good walk, and on the way back stopped to sit down and rest on this beautiful patch of soft, green moss.

Well, that was our worst mistake…..and it only takes one word to describe it….seedticks! :D LOL! That was really a bad spot to pick to sit down on!

I've added a new poll to my sidebar, I dunno if anybody's seen it yet. :) The question is this… "Do Christians (professing born-again believers) sin on a daily basis?" Please do vote.. and you can comment and let me know what & why you voted what you voted for, if you want. :)

I can't seem to embed it in the post so you'll have to vote on the one in the sidebar!

Danny's Blue Leg

Yesterday I caught a really, really big bullfrog in the waterhole! :D I mean, he was a whopper! I had been patiently sitting by the waterhole trying to catch a frog in my net.. preferably a big frog. I even had my 5 gallon bucket with me to put them in! Two littler ones were caught (and jumped out of the 5 gallon bucket…) before I saw my prize hiding under the pipes in the water, right up against the bank.

So I slowly dipped my net in the water, which was already extended as far as it could reach, just to ensure that I could get it, slowly advanced my net underneath this big froggy, then suddenly pulled it up out of the water from underneath of him, and it pinned him to the bank, so he would jump into my net! It worked! :D

He has got to be the biggest frog I have ever caught. The second picture is me trying to do a hand comparison to his size ~ and he was as big as my hand! :o He jumped out of the bucket twice, and he had a mighty powerful jump on him! :D I really hated to have to let him go after I spend all that time trying to catch him, but oh well. Maybe by the next time I catch him he'll be bigger! (That's hard to imagine :P )

Danny (my rooster) now has a beautiful blue cast on his leg…

Danny Danny-on-roost thecast

Because he somehow managed to rip out his spur, and don't ask me how! I have no idea how he managed to do such a thing! I picked him up last night when we were putting the animals away, so I could put him in his cage for the night, and Levi noticed he was dripping blood from his foot. I simply thought he cut his toe or some such a thing, but Levi saw that his spur was completely (I mean, completely..) gone and there was a gaping hole where it should have been!

We packed cayenne pepper in and around the wound to stop the bleeding (and it did), then wrapped a paper towel around that, then Mom wrapped gauze and the sticky blue gauze around that to keep everything in. It hasn't bled anymore, so hopefully it will heal nicely… but I'm still very curious as to how he did it… and where the spur is!

The cast doesn't seem to bother Danny (neither does the absense of his spur, for that matter), and he thinks he's got something special with that pretty blue gauze wrapped around his leg!! :)

A Quick Rundown

Oh my! I didn't quite mean to disappear from here so quickly after I got back from Gran and Pap's! I'll give you a quick rundown on what's been going on around here since my last post. :)

I got sick Monday with a stomach virus / flu, and was sick the entire day (queasy, chills, achy joints, etc). Whoever heard of curling up in a blanket on the couch in July? I even wore a flannel shirt when I went outside! Anyhow, the next few days I was able to rest and recuperate, and today I'm feeling great! Praise the Lord!! :D

This is a hornet's nest that dropped out from underneath the tarp we had over the log-splitter. It's a pretty good sized one, huh? There were hornets swarming all around it – I guess they couldn't figure out why their home dropped to the ground! All I can figure is it must've gotten too heavy!

bullfroginnet bigbullfroghead jacobjohn

Here's a rather large bullfrog I caught with my new pond net in the Waterhole! This is the first one of this size that I've been able to catch. After I caught him, I also caught another littler one (though I didn't get a picture of him) before I let them go. :) And the rooster there is Jacob.. he was "allowed" out with the hens the other day, and enjoyed himself greatly!

I've moved my entire Scripture Wallpapers project over to my new Scripture graphics blog ~ Thy Word Forever. I figured it would be easier to have everything in one spot. So check that out, and from now on I'll be doing all the Scripture wallpaper requests there. :)

Chicken Wire Complete!

We finally got all the chicken wire on the bottom of the hi-tensile fence around the barnyard! Yay! :D It was a lot of work, but now I don't have to worry about the guineas wandering off to the neighbor's house!

family_chickenwire dad_chickenwire

Oh, and now that we're on the subject of the guineas ( :P ), they've now started to go into the brush piles [that are inside the barnyard fence] and nest. I've found the girls in there a couple of times, but right now they're not staying in there very long – then they'll wander back out and scratch around. I am so glad I don't have to worry about them disappearing anymore! :)

Gabriel doesn't really care for the new fence since he now can't get into the barnyard unless someone opens the gate for him! Before he kept going around the partial fence and getting stuck because he conveniently forgot how to get back out!! :P LOL.

Last night I stuck Jesse (along with Sammy) in the Hen Pen to keep him away from Blackfeet, but lo and behold, when I went out this morning Jesse was in the Rooster Pen with Blackfeet. The only way he could've gotten into the Rooster Pen was under the Hen Pen roost there's some loose fence, but I sure didn't think it was loose enough for a big guinea to crawl underneath of it! Very strange… and I know I put him in there last night, because I distinctly remember wading through the Rooster Pen sludge in my nice tennis shoes to catch that little rascal!

froggy frog-playing-possum

No, the frog isn't dead, in case you were wondering!

I found him down by the barnyard pond, and I guess he was stunned or something, because he just let me pick him up as easy as pie and even let me turn him over in my hand (and take a picture!). However, when I put him back down, he jumped back in the water like normal! I just thought that close up of his head was so neat! What a pretty eyeball he has! :D

Pictures

Well, among doing other things today, I got out my camera and decided to take a few pictures. I've picked out a few of the best to post here. :)

I'm not exactly sure what type of plant this is, but it grows everywhere in the woods around here! Does anyone else know?

A little buttercup

Some type of purple flower

The beechnut tree in the front yard

Some water down by the creek

This is a bullfrog I found sitting in the pond!

My pet hen, Dove.

I was reading in James last night, and I came across this verse;
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
(James 1:19 KJV)

Which reminded me, yet again, that I need to think before I speak. I have a habit of speaking before thinking, and speaking much too quickly often. I guess I will just have to work on it!
