Between Shovels

Oh my, yesterday was a busy (and tiring!) day for us. It's a good thing the snow was light, and not heavy, because of all the shoveling and clearing we had to do! Shoveling out the paths (again), shoveling off the porches and decks, shoveling paths to the vehicles and clearing them off, shoveling a path down the front yard over headed towards Gracie's pen for the water hose, and Levi also pushed snow out of the driveway with the tractor! :D I'm sure glad we didn't lose our electricity or anything like that!

So, here's some of the promised photos that I took today, between shovels. ;) I had to shovel a while so that I could get my fingers nice and toasty warm (instead of being white, numb, and frozen!) so I could snap some photos, seeing as I have a real hard time doing it with my big, bulky gloves on.

I stayed on the paths most of the time while taking photos, because I didn't want to risk getting snow and ice down my boots! Brrr! And in some of the spots where the snow had blown more than 13 inches, it was well over the top of my boots! The first photo up on the left was taken from my bedroom window yesterday morning. After I saw how the light was "hitting" (can't think of a better expression!) the trees, I just couldn't resist snapping a shot of it! :)

Then a picture of snow on the tree limbs…icicles hanging off the barn roof, a closer shot of them, and Hannah with the guineas!

There's Hannah and Shadow on the path to the turkey building. They're usually behind me, instead of in front of me (especially if I have the scratch bucket!), but this time they decided to take the lead. I love this next picture of Shadow… his tongue is out! haha! :D

The last photo is my favorite, I think. With the snow, icicles hanging on the barn, and the wood smoke coming out the chiminy, just gives it that nice "look", if you know what I mean! ;)

My 16th Birthday

lacy-samAs some of you are probably aware, yesterday was my 16th birthday. :D Yep, that's right, I finally turned 16, isn't that neat? Had someone asked me what I wanted for my birthday on Monday or Tuesday I would've said all I wanted was electricity, running water, and heat!

All in all, I had a very wonderful day. :) We didn't bake a cake, due to the fact that Gran & Pap had brought down our "early birthday" cake & some gifts when they came, and none of us particularly wanted anymore cake, especially after we all had just gotten over being sick.

lacy-sam_upcloseI had decided to try to let Tiny perch on my shoulder yesterday. I figured since she perched so well on her 'transportation stick' (which I really ought to get a picture of!) why not try letting her perch on my shoulder like a parrot? Well, once I tried to get her on my shoulder I quickly wished I hadn't, because she sure put up a fuss. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I forgot to check if her feet were clean. :P

Well, she apparently didn't want to roost on my shoulder.. she actually preferred to try to get on my head instead. And me, wearing my white headcovering and her with her not-so-clean feet, that didn't go over very well!! Needless to say, my white headcovering now needs to be washed!

I started working on some of my first Scripture tag graphics (for sidebars, etc) yesterday. I don't think they turned out too badly. :)

It started snowing…

Well, I finally did get sick, I must not have been consistent enough with putting the Oregano under my tongue. Thankfully, though, I got it and had it over with within a day. Gran and Pap came down on February the 28th to spend a couple days with us, and we, as always, thoroughly enjoyed their company! :D

Sunday it started snowing, and it snowed all day, and continuing snowing all night. By Monday morning it finally stopped snowing. Let me tell you, this is the biggest snow I can remember having for a long time. Though we didn't officially measure it, I'd say we got around 11 inches.

Gabriel enjoyed it and the chickens and guineas have never seen this much snow. They wouldn't set foot in the little snow skiffs we had a while back, and they certainly aren't going to step in this much snow! :D

We were all sitting around Sunday night having a little Bible study, and about 10 minutes after we had finished it, we lost our electricity. Apparently some limb out of a tree fell and hit the electric line and caused a fuse to blow. Then we proceeded with the normal action of trying-to-remember-where-I-stuck-my-flashlight search. :)

Though we didn't have any heat in the house, we did have the wood stove in the barn to get warm with! And, with 11 inches of snow sitting outside, it is nice to have someplace you can go to get warm!! At about 5 AM this morning, we finally got our power back, for which we are very thankful! :D

It seems to me that last time Gran & Pap came down it snowed… didn't it? Oh, that reminds me, Gran brought down a whole pack (44 cards) of "Who Am I?" cards for me so I could post them on my blog, after we are finished with the "What Am I?" cards. :)
