My Sunshine

There I go again, keeping you all waiting for weeks at a time before I update! I do apologize for that – it wasn't intentional! Every time I sat down to post I got a touch of that famous "blogger's block" and couldn't think of anything to write. Well, this morning I decided to write something even if it wasn't too exciting, at least ya'll would know I'm still here.. LOL! :)

barn_viewstalls

As you can see, we've gotten a LOT of progress done on the barn since my last post. Got the siding up, stalls are getting completed, and got the barn painted (more painted than the picture above shows.. I haven't gotten a new far away picture yet, that one was from a couple days ago I think).

I think that color is a very pretty, almost rustic red. Not nearly as bright a red as our other buildings are painted in, I think they were done in something called "polished apple".

As you can probably tell from the pictures above, Megan is still here with us, and should probably be here till the end of October (Yay!). :D We've already went on a bike ride out to the Bumpass Park (the flower pictures were taken on the way home) and taken a walk through the woods, and at the end of that walk we had to rush home because … … you should be able to guess the answer. :P We must've managed to walk through a patch of seedticks!

They didn't attach on anyone else but me, and I've got at least 25 bites around my right ankle. :P And they sure do itch! LOL! We did get to see something exciting though when we took that walk, something we've never got to see before. ^^ It's up above on the bottom row of the pictures between the daisies and the thistle. Baby raccoons! Two of them, at that! :D

A couple of days ago we had to put down three of our pets / animals. Light-bill (our oldest duck), Jack (our male duck), and Tiny (the half-blind guinea girl, that was now completely blind in one eye 'cause something must've pecked her in it). That was sad, but at least they are no longer suffering here.

You probably remember in my last post that I said my Aunt Mel was going to be coming down soon and bringing us a cat. :) Well, she did so last week.. as a matter a fact it was this day last week, I believe! And she did bring us our cat, and I just finally got a couple good pictures of him yesterday. He absolutely loves it outside. Right now we are keeping him in the barn until he gets used to the place and everything (not that I think he'd run off too far, but a running cat is kind of hard to chase down!), but he already knows how to push the barn door open, so we have to keep the latch over the door while he's in there!

sunny little_sunny sunshine_face

There's my little kitty! :D We had a terrible time thinking of a name for him. Levi, Megan, and I were leaning toward either Theodore or Alfred (so we could call him either Teddy or Alfy, lol), but neither Mom or Dad liked that, so we eventually decided on Sunshine… and we get to call him Sunny for short!

Which I think is kind of funny, since our last cat was named Stormy.. and now we have Sunny! :D

And, to top it all off, Megan has shared some exciting news over at her blog, which some of you may have already heard about. But if you haven't, I'm going to keep you in suspense until you go read Megan's post! :D

George Washington

And, just in case anybody's wondering, I'm not talking about the man George Washington but rather the duck George Washington! :D

I was looking through my little photo album the other day, and I found some various old pictures that I asked Mom to scan in on the computer ~ among them was George.

georgew

George was one of our male ducks from our first batch of ducks (Light-bill is the only remaining duck from that bunch) and believe me, he was the most strangest looking duck that I've ever seen. In the picture above, that's him all the way on the left.
Darker face and that strange tuff of white fluff on his head. Makes for quite an interesting duck, doesn't he?

georgew_baby

George eventually became a problem duck and we had to get rid of him. I'm glad someone got pictures of him while we had him, though! Just looking at him kinda makes me chuckle. He certainly was a sight! :D

georgew_grown

There's Georgie, all grown up. He still never seemed to shed that fluff on his head! Don't ask me how he aquired the name George Washington, I don't remember back that far. :P All the other ducks in that bunch were normal.. I don't know what happened to poor George! LOL

Battle Wound

Riding your bike is so enjoyable in this type of warm weather! :) Except for the fact that I need to do it more now, since I get winded far too easily from lack of practice! Levi and I raced today and of course, he won. :P

puffer_face

This is the left side of one of our male turkey's face… Puffer, to be exact. I noticed it yesterday while I was in the barnyard by the pond, and when I got close to his left side he didn't move (due to his eye being closed, he can't see out of it).

stomperApparently both our male turkeys are going into their "fighting" season again, and, as always, Puffer obviously lost the fight.  Stomper here (on the right) was the victor of this fight. Notice that really long extra sharp beak he's got? Well, I reckon he sure knows how to use it!

So, Puffer spent last night in the Rooster Pen with the guineas, because right now we can't put him back in the turkey pen with Stomper, especially with him only having one eye, Stomper might really take advantage of the situation! I guess he'll be spending a lot of nights in the Rooster Pen until his battle wounds heal.

ducks-in-pond lighty_jack

This is Jack and Light-bill in the halfway enlarged pond in the barnyard. You can tell which one's Jack in the 2nd picture because he's so much bigger than Lighty. They absolutely love all the water they can play in now, and more than that they are thoroughly enjoying each other's company. Jack has actually been behaving (let's just hope he keeps behaving, right?) and doing really well, and even his leg is finally improving!

sammy-allen

And of course I couldn't resist taking a picture.. or rather.. trying to take a picture, of my adorable little Sammy Allen. He's my little barnyard companion and escort. :) I thought I'd get my camera out today and see if there was anything interesting to take pictures of.. I only ended up taking 50 (which are basically a lot of pictures of the same things!) but I won't bore you to death by posting them all. :P

My Cape Dress

I finally got Mom to take some pictures of my cape dress yesterday (remember, the one I was ripping seams for? ;) ) I was wearing it yesterday and suddenly remembered I had wanted some pictures to post on the blog so ya'll could see the finished product! Mom only took one full length picture, so I'm glad it turned out clear and everything, since we took it inside.

lacy_cape-dress_full

And, of course, while Mom had the camera out, we went ahead and got some individual pictures, though only two of them are worth posting! Mom had me stand up on her chair in her bedroom so the border at the top of the wall would be behind my head, which doesn't look too bad, I guess. And out of all the pictures she took of Levi, that's basically the only one that turned out clear, the rest of them were fuzzy because she wasn't using the flash.

lacy_headshot levi

And one of Levi and I together. These kind of pictures are usually hard for us to get, since it's either me or Levi usually taking the pictures! :P

levi_lacy

Jack and Light-bill have been out together for a couple of days, since Jack's leg is hurt he doesn't try to get on her or anything, and since he is behaving so well I've even been letting them both sleep in the Duck Pen together. I can tell Lighty likes his company, and he is very protective of her! He even tries to 'charge' me if I get to close! :) Besides, they can both keep each other warm on these cold nights!

The beginning of 2009

Since the last post was named 'The end of 2008' it seemed only fitting that I begin this post with the title 'The beginning of 2009'. Okay, so actually it was because I couldn't think of a better title right now. :P

If someone hadn't told me, I would have forgotten that today was January 1st, 2009. That figures, I don't look at the calendar very often. LOL.

gabriel-guineas lacy-jack jack-water

These are some pictures I took the other day (well, Mom took the one of me) when we took Jack down to the lower pond (second waterhole). Gabriel is doing really well with the animals, but especially the guineas (I think he likes them best). I have been trying to leave my little guineas by themselves more often so they don't always depend on me for everything, and I think they are finally getting the idea.

I think it's funny in the second picture, Jack looks like he's waving with his foot! :D And the third picture is funny too.. Jack's head and neck are actually under the water, but you can still see them! :) Oh, the joy of snapping pictures!

jack_upclose gabriel gabriel-head_upclose

Jack again, this time upclose. I'm surprised at how clear it turned out! I try to not use Auto very much on the camera, but now I mostly use Shutter Speed (which, for some reason, I always tend to call "Saturation") to tweak the colors. Gabriel sitting on the bank of the driveway.. Mom had to get behind me to get him to look at the camera. He's so stubborn! ;) And Gabriel again, this time looking at Levi who was making a noise or some such a thing.

I'm sure most by now have noticed the poll in the sidebar and voted, but if you haven't, please go do so. :D I love seeing the results of my polls, and usually end up making a post about whatever the poll's subject was on — and this one is on headcovering. If you want, you can comment and tell me what you voted on, and why. I know, I'm terribly curious. :D

Rainy Ramblings & Wallpapers..

Yesterday was another absolutely beautiful day — it got up to at least 65 degrees outside! Kind of strange for December, but I'm glad we get some days that are nice and warm. :) Today it is back to being cold outside and rainy, which means I can't let the guineas, chickens, or turkeys out today because last time I let them out on a rainy day they all got soaked to the bone (and then it got pretty chilly that night) so I don't want to do that again. They stay dryer if I leave them in their pens.
I will have to keep an eye on Light-Bill's pen though, since last time it rained, the pen was flooded (which soaks her nice bed of leaves…)

Since it was so nice yesterday, most of the day was spent outside. I kept my guineas company (and the dog, LOL) and Levi went for a walk in the woods. I meant to take the camera out and get some pictures of the deck over top the buried tank, but I forgot! Dad and Levi have already built the steps to go up on it, and Gabriel (for some odd reason) won't go up on the deck and won't even hardly climb to the top of the stairs, but my little guineas went up and down them just fine.

Levi took a picture of Jacob the other day and I think it looks so funny:

jacob_running

Jacob has such a serious little face, even when he's running! :D He was getting a bit frisky yesterday, I guess with it being warm all of a sudden, and was trying to attack my foot. Silly little rooster!

Lately I've been getting a lot of searches for christmas Scripture wallpapers, so I decided to make some up. Here's a few of them. I always figured a picture is worth a thousand words, so I hope you enjoy! :)
