Let no man deceive you
Little children, let no man deceive you: (1 John 3:7)
Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. (Romans 12:9)
Even though the world makes halloween seem "cute" and "harmless", the warning still remains in Scripture; Little children, let no man deceive you! We are to abhor that which is evil, no matter how "cute" the world makes it look.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, (2 Corinthians 6:17)

I hear the 'its cute and harmless' excuse a lot from other people especially from parents but what I see out on the streets and on the shelves in stores is far from cute or harmless. The gore and violence of "Holiday Decor" during this season is frightening and I cannot fathom how anyone can find enjoyment out of death and gore like they seem to on halloween.
I live on a busy street in town and I know there will be many little hands knocking at our door this october 31st and I dont believe that Jesus would have me lock my door and turn off the light that otherwise always shines a welcome on our porch. We dont have much to give but I intend to at least give them a loving reminder that Jesus loves them when they come to the door. It's hard to see little ones deceived during this time….I try to keep in mind most of those who take part in the holiday have innocent motives and not to judge the trick-or-treater or house that hangs up a ghost.
Its hard to find that balance of setting yourself apart from the wickedness of the world but not distance yourself from people and withhold the loving kindness Jesus gives to us to share to others. God bless you Lacy! <3

Amen! I encourage you to look up the origin of Halloween, Jack-O-Lanterns, and so forth. It will convince you even further of the dangers of celebrating Halloween!
I might post about it on my blog sometime soon.
God Bless,
In Christ Alone,

very well said. I have children that see all the halloween hype and think sometimes its harmless I even know Chirstians that say :just don't let dress up in scary or evil coustumes" I additon to a Costume being an extreme waste of money it celebrates pagan practices and Evil in the world. Praise God alot of local churches around here do the "light in the Night" events that are Chirstian Alternatives to halloween. Last year a local church did a Holy Spirt walk to inspire unchurched that one has NO Fear when the Holy Spirt is within you.

witches, ghosts, goblins, ghouls, vampires, monsters, devils, and so much more.
These are all the things kids dress up like -for this celebration. It's a shame that this goes on and adults let the kids partake of this holiday.
Some argue about the fact it is all hallows eve, but what I've heard is everyone used to put food out for the spirits who would roam the earth so they would leave you alone. This has always been a bad holiday and is not celebrated by true christian.
I love this, thanks for posting. GBU

How can any christian look at the way evil is worsiped on Halloween and say that it is 'harmless' ? Just look at the decorations people put up to celebrate this 'holiday' .

I agree,I use to allow my children to go trick or treating. I seen nothing wrong with this and would tell myself as long as I and my children are not evil and participating in the evil things of this day then it's ok and harmless. Just fun for the kids. Well God has been telling me that is a no no and not the correct way of thinking.
Our church has a harvest party on Halloween, It's fun for our children and it puts God as the center of all. As it should be.

We're usually so busy that we ignore it altogether. It's just another day for us. We live in an area where rarely there are trick or treaters. Still, I too have become horrified with the "harmless fun" of the holiday. You can't put whitewash on a rotten board and call it harmless. The board is still rotten. So just because your girl is a nurse or princess instead of a witch and your boy a construction worker instead of ghoul, doesn't mean you aren't still celebrating an evil practice. We are to according to 1 Thes. 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. Not just simply all evil, but all appearance of evil. In other words, not even pretend evil or whitewashed evil.

My daughter (she's 4 1/2) doesn't understand why everyone is celebrating Halloween. Today, at the store, she asked several different people why there was so much Halloween stuff. I had to explain to them (as they gave me a funny look) that we don't celebrate Halloween. To which they say… ahhh… and then, answer with a little giggle and turning away. My daughter said to me… Mommy, these people should listen to God! Out of the mouth of babes!

While I agree that the current practices of halloween are a bit over the top, All Saint's Eve really does have a historical background. It really was regarded as a night when the threshold between this world and the otherworld became thin and allowed spirits through. People dressed in scary costuming to ward off harmful spirits from their homes.
I think the trick-or-treating and other modern aspects of halloween are just commercialization. An attempt for big businesses to make even more money.
I hope this doesn't sound rude, though, but ignoring it isn't going to make it go away. You could use the opportunity of trick-or-treating to hand out pamphlets about the Word. It would seem a perfect opportunity to educate people about the Word.
Unfortunately, the Bible doesn't always address specific events, like a candy-filled, ultra-commercialized and butchered holiday, a mere shell of what it used to be.
