Building a Barn
Whew, it's been a while since I've updated, hasn't it? Well, I'll try to fill you in on what's been going on in this here post!
Dad started his vacation last week (He's off for the entire month of September!) and we have been busy working on building a goat / storage barn thing ever since. We're building it over behind Woofie's dog pen (currently inhabited by the goats), but before we could do that, we had to take half the fence down on the dog pen (putting up a temporary fence in the middle to separate it and to be able to keep the goats in the pen still) and dig out a stump that was in the way so we could start building!
Dad bought an electric concrete mixer so we wouldn't have to mix all that concrete by hand (and let me tell you it makes it much easier!! And quicker!). After squaring everything up and all that, Levi and Dad dug the 6 holes that we needed to be able to put up the 6 posts (6×6's that were 16 feet tall!!), which we did yesterday, and also braced them all and poured the holes full of concrete!
While the concrete was drying yesterday, Levi and I both got to write in the concrete!
My 6 on the 16 didn't quite turn out like I wanted it too, lol! Writing in concrete is fun ~ and whatever you wrote will always be there later!
With all the braces on the posts, it makes it like a maze to get through! Especially when we were trying to weave the concrete mixer in and out, and also the wheel barrow full of 3 bags of concrete! Definitely a challenge not to hit the braces!
I'll try to keep you updated on the progress of the building, maybe I can write up a post in the evenings here and there when I'm not too absolutely exhausted!
Yesterday evening I felt like I was covered in concrete dust from all the concrete we were mixing up! LOL!

Hi Lacy! I have been thinking about you all a lot! I hope all is well. Please tell your mom hello for me!

Looks like some hard work! But it would be made fun with your family all involved. That's what my dad does for a living! So you can imagine how he feels most every day. haha.
How did your dad manage to take a whole month at a time off? What a blessing!
I'm excited to see the finished product!

I remember about 15 years ago I helped build an experimental greenhouse 24×42 feet. It was down a sharp drop so the cement truck couldn't pour directly. We used a bucket and wheelbarrow to hand pour 3 cement trucks full to make our foundation. That was a lot of work and expensive since we had to pay waiting time on each load while we hauled it around one little load at a time.

Lacy, I've been reading your blog for quite a while now, and have just never commented! I have a very spare moments now so I thought I'd take the time to drop you a note.
I REALLY like you blog! I'd have to say it's one of my favorites! It's so much fun to see your daily life and to hear about what's been going on.
I remember when my father put in the base for our flagpole, he let all of us kids put our hand prints in the concrete. Years later, it is fun to go back to the flagpole and lay our hands into our prints and see how much we'd grown!
Blessings!
