With Contentment
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Hello Oriana
What on earth are snickerdoodles – I have never heard of them here in the uk. How do you make them?

Hello Pauline,
Snicker doodles are the most scrumptious sugary cookies there are
. (Not really,
but I really love them) Click on my blog entry, I extended it and added the recipe and directions on preparing them. I hope you enjoy them if you decide to make them!
Have a Great day,

Thank you very much Oriana – I will definitely try these! Sure to be a big hit with the family! Its a shame that some of the things which are not good for you (although I am sure in moderation they are ok) are so nice!

I don't get it – are these the good things:
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness?
Sounds good but won't being to focused on following, striving after them distract us from contentment? Contentment is difficult!

I believe that the verse is telling you to stop placing money as your number one priority, it should not be held in higher esteem than God. So many people strive to make more and more money to get more and more possesions and become discontent because there is always one more possession that they "need" (want) and they never find satisfaction in what they already have because they are always focused on the next thing.
If you make God your number one priority and focus, and live your life according to the scriptures you find that righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness slowly become a part of who you are. It is not so much that you are focused daily on these virtues, although we should all strive to live a gospel life, it is that you are always focused on God for all of your needs, and your trust is in the Lord that he will take care of you, and then contentment comes naturally. Rather than always wanting more, putting faith in the stock market, 401K, bank account, etc. and feeling devastated when things don't go well, remember that God is faithful, he is always here for us, he doesn't crash, lose value, or go out of business.
There is a song, Count your blessings, count them one by one, count your many blessings, see what God has done!! If we do this we see that our Lord has always been with us, is with us, and will continue to be with us. If that doesn't bring contentment, I don't know what will.
