I like your interesting combination of passages from the Holy Scriptures and tree/gift pictures to rail against materialism. I take it that is what your intention is? However, I must step forward to defend the depictions of Christ, 1 John 1: 1-4 is the passage that Christians have been using since the early Church times to explain our use of icons/images. But we only depict Christ and people, not God the Father. Jesus said "whoever has seen me has seen the Father".
Peace to you.

Hmm, does the Exodus 20 verse therefore exclude art/photography etc from being Godly? Should we take the approach that Muslims do, and abstain from looking at/creating anything that re-creates the image of people, animals and plants? Personally, I see no reason why art/photography portraying people, animals and plants can't be Godly – after all, that model of the Nativity is just portraying Jesus' birth.
It is an interesting question!

Mrs. Alana,
My intention is not merely to rail against materialism, but rather to show that this "holiday" is of the world, not of God! We are told to "come out from among them, and be ye separate" and to "learn NOT the way of the heathen" and christmass is entirely rooted in paganism, worldliness, idolatry, and covetousness.
You say the images of Christ are only showing Christ & people, yet Jesus himself declared that "I and my Father are one." and "he that hath seen me hath seen the Father" You cannot 'depict' one, and not the other. We are forbidden to make graven images of God.
Isaiah 40:18 says "To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?" and is it a coincidence that the very next verse speaks of a graven image?

Jade,
Exodus 20:3-5 is speaking of graven images, which are idols. Something that you worship, or a likeness of God (other definitions of graven image). Since the nativity scene is trying to make a likeness of Christ (again, "I and my Father are one") it is therefore making a likeness of God, which we are forbidden to do because it is considered a graven image.
It is not talking about re-creating the image of people, animals, or plants.. unless, of course, you worship those images.
I hope that helps answer your question!

I appreciate your view on the christmas issue. It is such a blessing to see other christians being separated from the world and the things of the world.
Have a great day and may the Lord richly bless you.
